Big Idea

Mind, Body and Soul

We did mind, body and soul for 14 weeks, I enjoyed all of the rotations. For mind I enjoyed lava of fury the most in that we had to cross the basketball court by using two hoola hoops the teams were our sports day teams. For body I liked doing senses city in that one we had to do put blind folds on and eat random things, it felt weird because you didn’t know what you were eating. For soul I enjoyed doing combo station in this one we did all these things that might calm you down, I enjoyed this one a lot.

For the rest of the term am going to be using my interest of food to link in with our topic of mind, body and soul and complete two tasks that I Have negotiated with a 5/6 teacher.
Negotiated task 1:
I will produce a poster of what healthy food includes and what unhealthy food include I will even right down a few foods and what they do to the human body.
Negotiated task 2:
I will produce a PowerPoint of how the human body breaks down food and a cycle of what happens. I will include a few pages of foods and the affected area.

To get these tasks completed I need to:
Use a computer to get some of the research and if there are no computers at school I will use a computer at home or I will try and find a book that has some information on food.

In my negotiated task I have to do one more writing piece about your energy levels of when you don’t eat enough fibre, I also have to do a few more slides on my PowerPoint about the digestive system. For the last few weeks I have been doing the PowerPoint I have done round about 6 slides and I might have to get some new butcher paper and cut everything of my old poster and put it on the new butcher paper because my old poster is really dirty. I might have to bring a bit of it home because I am running a bit behind so if I bring it home I have a bigger chance of getting it finished. I enjoy doing my negotiated task because it is more challenging than 3/4 because you have to do it to 5/6 standard I also like doing negotiated task because you get to learn Facts and ask questions about your interest.

I have officially completed my negotiated task and I believe I went pretty well because myself assessment was almost the same as my peer assessment. I am most proud of my poster because that had three full writing pieces on a big piece of butcher paper with decoration although I am also very proud of my PowerPoint which was on the digestive system and that had 9 slides. On the expo a lot of parents read my poster and asked me questions about it some of them were hard but I remembered from when I was writing the poster. At one point a doctor came round and looked at my PowerPoint and she started talking about the stuff she knows about the digestive system some of the stuff she said was disgusting like she started talking about what the stomach looked like in real life but then she said some interesting things like how it is like magic when it disappears.

I might need to improve on how Set my stuff out on the expo because lots of people didn’t see my poster because it was hanging from the table. But now that I know where I can improve on I believe that my next negotiated task will be great. One thing I have learnt is that you have to work a lot harder in 5/6 than you do in ¾ because in 5/6 they expect more from you but the most important thing I have learnt is that you can’t muck around because you won’t complete your negotiated task.
